Kaoru Aoyama is a professor at the Graduate School of Intercultural Studies, Kobe University. She holds a PhD in sociology and specializes in gender/sexuality studies, gendered labor and crossborder migration. She is currently leading two corroborative pieces of research both as the PI: on migrant sex work and trafficking in the sex industry in nine countries in Europe and Asia; and challenging the notion of dichotomous sex/gender/sexuality from Asian perspectives, which is a successor project of this book.
