About Editors and Authors

FURUKAWA Hisao is Professor Emeritus at Kyoto University. He graduated from the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Faculty of Agriculture, Kyoto University, in 1963, and served as Associate Professor at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University (1978), Professor at Kyoto University (1988) and Professor in the Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies, Kyoto University (1998). He specializes in ecological science and human geography, and throughout his career conducted extensive fieldwork in Southeast Asia. He retired in 2003.
