About Editors and Authors

HAYAMI Yoko

HAYAMI Yoko is Professor at and Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University. Her research interests include care and aging in Southeast Asia and ethnic minorities and religion in Thailand and Burma. She completed a doctoral program at Brown University, Rhode Island, obtaining a PhD in Anthropology.

TANABE Akio

TANABE Akio is a Japanese cultural anthropologist who is Professor at the Department of Cultural Anthropology, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and Director (2017–) of the Center for South Asian Studies at the University of Tokyo. He specializes in the historical anthropology of South Asia, especially India, with an emphasis on caste and religion, democratization and social change and South Asian paths of development. As series editor, he launched the multidisciplinary series New Horizons in South Asian Studies published by Routledge, London, and was co-editor of the first volume titled Democratic Transformation and the Vernacular Public Arena in India (2014) and the fourth volume titled Human and International Security in India (2015).

TOKITA-TANABE Yumiko

TOKITA-TANABE Yumiko is Visiting Researcher at the National Museum of Ethnology. Her research fields include educational sociology, cultural anthropology and folklore, and she has conducted fieldwork in India. She completed her PhD at the University of Tokyo and went on to work as Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Human Sciences, Osaka University. She served as Specially Appointed Associate Professor and Visiting Researcher at Osaka University before taking up her current position.
